Monaco manager Adi Hutter has indicated that his squad is prepared to counter Arsenal’s primary strength, identified as their effectiveness from set-pieces, during their visit to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. This capability was recently demonstrated when the Gunners scored their 23rd goal from a corner kick since the beginning of last season in their weekend match against Fulham, a figure significantly higher than any other team in Europe’s major leagues. Prior to the Monaco-Arsenal fixture, Hutter mentioned that his team had engaged in more extensive preparation than usual to address their opponent’s key advantage. He stated, “Our preparation for this match was more advanced than for a classic Ligue 1 match, that’s for sure.” He further elaborated, “They are very strong on set-pieces – it’s a real weapon for them. That’s obvious. “They train a lot for that, but we have an idea of how we should defend in these phases. We can also be a threat to them in this area, because that’s also something that’s an area of strength for us.” After five games, Arsenal and Monaco currently occupy the final two automatic qualification positions for the round of 16, both having accumulated 10 points. However, results from Tuesday’s matches caused both teams to fall below the qualification line, meaning they will enter the upcoming game ranked 10th and 11th respectively. With qualification still highly attainable for Monaco, Hutter emphasized that his team aims to create their own challenges. He affirmed, “It will be a very big game for us, but we are here in London to show our style of play, our brand of committed football.” He concluded by saying, “We do not only want to be a good opponent, but to try to bring something back from here.”
