Manx Care has announced the suspension of visiting privileges on two hospital wards, citing a “significant increase” in norovirus cases. Ward six at Noble’s Hospital was closed to visitors on Saturday, with visitor access to ward eight also halted three days later, remaining suspended until further notice. Norovirus is identified as a highly contagious winter vomiting bug that also causes diarrhoea. Individuals exhibiting symptoms are advised to avoid contact with others for at least 48 hours after their symptoms have subsided. Manx Care has encouraged patient relatives to contact the respective wards during designated visiting hours to receive updates from staff regarding family members. The healthcare provider indicated that further information would be issued once the circumstances evolve. The Isle of Man’s public health directorate recently released guidelines aimed at slowing the transmission of winter illnesses and reducing pressure on the health service.
