North Yorkshire Police have clarified that an animal carcass discovered at a waste recycling facility, initially reported as a dead “horse,” was actually a deer. Employees at the Ripon site alerted authorities to what they believed was the body of a horse or pony, prompting the police force to issue a public appeal for information on Tuesday. On Wednesday, police provided an update, stating: “Following further investigations, the animal remains have been identified as a deer. We are no longer appealing for information.” According to information on the North Yorkshire Council’s website, “Dead animals cannot be accepted at any of our household waste recycling centres.”
