Local residents have expressed their disgust following the appearance of “offensive graffiti” on an exterior wall of a primary school, positioned in front of a poppy display. This graffiti emerged at Hampton Vale Primary Academy in Peterborough several days prior. Community members subsequently shared their reactions on social media platforms. One individual commented: “This should be covered/removed straight away”, while another voiced their dissatisfaction, stating: “That’s been there for a while. I walked past it last week. [It is] disgusting behaviour.” A spokesperson for the school stated: “We are aware of the graffiti that is on our external school wall. We reported this issue to the local council immediately after identifying/being made aware of the graffiti the following day.” The spokesperson further explained: “Due to this being offensive graffiti, this is outsourced from the local council to an external company to remove this. We have since been chasing the external company for an update on when this will be removed.” For this year’s Remembrance Day commemoration, students had arranged a poppy display situated directly behind the low exterior brick wall at the school’s entrance. The front surface of this wall was subsequently defaced with graffiti; however, the poppy display itself remained untouched. The spokesperson additionally remarked: “As a school, we take great pride in our physical environment. In order to commemorate Remembrance Day this year, our pupils created a beautiful display of poppies on our front wall.” Hampton Vale Primary Academy, located in Hampton Vale and operating under the Four C’s Academy Trust, received a “Good” rating in its most recent Ofsted inspection. Peterborough City Council confirmed that the graffiti is anticipated to be removed by Friday.
