Midfielder Josh Eccles has agreed to a new contract with Coventry City, extending his tenure with the Championship club until the conclusion of the 2027-28 season. Eccles first joined Coventry City when he was seven years old. The 24-year-old has appeared 135 times for the Sky Blues since his first match in the EFL Trophy in November 2018, scoring three goals. He was a member of the team that clinched the League One title under former manager Mark Robins in 2020 and came on as a substitute when they lost to Luton on penalties in the Championship play-off final two seasons ago. “I’ve always gone by the motto that hard work always pays off and this contract proves to me that it does,” said Eccles, who also spent the first half of the 2020-21 season on loan at Gillingham. He continued, “I’ve been through some tough times, and you know it’s never going to be easy, so to get through those tough times and have this good moment, I’m delighted – I can’t wait to get going again.” Coventry, currently without a manager, will return to action at Burnley on Tuesday evening as they seek to improve their present 17th place in the table.
