Days before Christmas, Father Christmas made a special stop to see nine-year-old Isaac, who is currently receiving a second course of chemotherapy for a recurring brain tumour. This visit, which included Isaac and his classmates at Cavendish Primary School in Hull, was an element of BBC Radio Humberside’s Santa Bus tour, an initiative that has been touring schools across East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. Isaac said: “It was really cool, and I loved that all my friends could see it with me”. Isaac’s mother, Jess, characterized the event as “very emotional,” expressing her joy at witnessing Isaac’s encounter with Father Christmas alongside his friends. Isaac initially received a diagnosis of a brain tumour in August 2022. Following successful treatment, he remained in remission for one year. Nevertheless, in March 2024, his family learned that the cancer had recurred. The Santa Bus visit was part of the family’s broader efforts to ensure Isaac could enjoy numerous experiences throughout the current year. Other family outings have included trips to Legoland, Disneyland Paris, and a sleepover at the National History Museum. Jess stated that the focus was on creating lasting memories for Isaac, his father Steve, and herself. “Even little things like cuddles, and saying ‘I love you’ – it’s so important,” she said. Joanne Mulligan, representing Cavendish Primary School, referred to Isaac as “such a lovely boy” and noted that the experience was “magical” for both him and his friends. “He’s absolutely loved it. It’s just been amazing. Some special memories have been made today.” The BBC encourages listeners to access highlights from Hull and East Yorkshire via BBC Sounds, view the most recent episode of Look North, or submit potential news stories.
