Proposals have been lodged to transform a plot of disused land in Bradford into a new street food venue, characterized as a “green oasis amidst a dense built area.” These plans aim to convert the triangular parcel at the intersection of Thornton Road and Listerhills Road into a new establishment named TriYard. The facility is intended to feature stalls offering a diverse selection of international cuisines, and the area is also slated to host recurring food festivals and various other outdoor events. Mi7 Projects Ltd, the developers, stated that the venue is envisioned as a “cultural meeting point to celebrate the rich and diverse food offerings in Bradford.” This development seeks to support local vendors who are encountering difficulties in securing space within the recently reduced market area, while simultaneously offering a distinct social environment for students at the adjacent university campus. The developers further commented, “Located within walking distance of the city centre, TriYard celebrates Bradford’s rich diversity in street food culture.” According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the site is projected to be enhanced by “colourful murals, street art and warm lighting” and will showcase local street food vendors providing cuisines “from Asian teas to Middle Eastern healthy bites.” The proposal additionally indicates “an emphasis on environment, with greener food offerings and a design built around nature.” It further states, “Food stalls, seating and pathways are arranged to create a natural flow from all three sides, blending industrial and modern aesthetics with greenery.” It concludes, “The food and drink kiosks are arranged around landscaped walkways to create a sense of green oasis amidst a dense built area.” In the previous year, Bradford Council issued temporary planning permission for a street food business operating from a “renovated vintage vehicle” to be situated on this triangular plot of land. A condition of that approval mandated that the site be cleared within two years of the business’s establishment. A cafe has since been constructed on the premises. The current planning application for the new street food venture asserts: “TriYard is designed to develop a viable use for the vacant site while expanding the food offerings in this prime location.” A determination regarding the application is anticipated prior to the conclusion of the current year.
