Northampton Saints’ centre, Tom Litchfield, who has previously represented England at Under-20 level, has finalized a new “multi-year” agreement with the current Premiership title holders. The 22-year-old athlete, who developed within the Saints’ academy system, has accumulated six tries across 47 senior matches. During the previous season, Litchfield participated in 12 games as the Saints secured their second Premiership title, defeating Bath in the championship match held at Twickenham. “Last season was extraordinary,” Litchfield stated. He added, “What we achieved as a group was unbelievable, but for me personally it was an incredible year.” This current term, Litchfield has been in the starting lineup for seven of his eight appearances, notably scoring a try during the victory against Leicester in the opening round of the Premiership Rugby Cup in early November. “I’m really happy to be remaining a Saint,” Litchfield commented. He further expressed, “The group we have at the club – players and staff – is really special. For me, there isn’t anywhere else I’d rather be playing my rugby.” Phil Dowson, the Director of Rugby, indicated that Litchfield’s “constant improvement” has been the most striking aspect for him over the past few months. Dowson remarked, “His differential is his physicality, his ability to get us over the gain-line in tough situations, and he does that with a really strong attitude.” He concluded, “We’re really pleased with how he keeps improving and showing us what he’s capable of.” This week, Litchfield’s signing marks the second multi-year agreement for a Saints player, following that of teenage back-rower Henry Pollock.
