Valuable photographs and journal entries pertaining to thousands of Dorset military personnel who perished during World War One are now accessible through a new digital database. The Museum of East Dorset has compiled the particulars of these fallen individuals from every commemorative site in the region, encompassing private, public, and religious memorials. Correspondence, illustrated cards, and military decorations have also been gathered for this initiative. This collection can be accessed without charge on the official website of the Wimborne-based museum. The One Hundred Year Heritage of the First World War for Wimborne and East Dorset Project experienced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Francessca Hollow, the museum’s director, stated that the project incorporates valuable images and aims to “ensure the names of those who died in the conflict from the community are available in one place for current and future generations”. This information is additionally being shared with the Imperial War Museum’s Lives of the First World War project.
