The determination regarding the redevelopment of a local authority’s main offices to create new residential properties has been postponed. Elmbridge Borough Council put forward a proposal suggesting that its Esher Civic Centre location could accommodate as many as 400 residences. Under this plan, the council’s administrative offices would either relocate to an alternative site or occupy a new structure built within the redeveloped area. The various possibilities were initially scheduled for discussion by the council’s cabinet in November. However, the local authority has announced that these options will now be presented to senior council members in 2025. Additionally, the facility houses Surrey Police, Elmbridge Citizens Advice, and two private businesses that lease premises there. Esher Bowls Club, whose access is through the civic centre car park, has been identified by the council as another significant stakeholder. It is among the organizations slated to receive updates during periodic meetings concerning the proposals. The council stated that additional time was required “to thoroughly develop and cost the options to support the project business case.”
