An actor known for his role in the television series Outlander has been acquitted of a rape accusation involving a woman at an aparthotel suite in Glasgow. Greggory Odjig faced allegations of raping a 34-year-old actress at the Premier Suites Plus serviced apartments, located on Bath Street in Glasgow, during May 2021. A jury at the High Court in Stirling rendered a “not proven” verdict for the charge against the 47-year-old Canadian actor, Greggory Odjig, after deliberating for under an hour. Following the jury’s decision, Odjig acknowledged the court with a bow. A separate accusation, alleging that Odjig had struck the woman, was withdrawn by the prosecution, and he had previously received a formal acquittal for that particular charge. Outside the courthouse, Odjig stated: “I have always known I was not guilty. “There are three things that cannot be hidden. You cannot hide our grandfather the sun. You cannot hide our grandmother the moon. And you cannot hide the truth.” Odjig further expressed his belief that Scotland’s “not proven” verdict would impede his efforts to revive his professional career. He commented: “I have tried many times since this started to find work, but every door is always closed to me. “A not proven verdict will make it more difficult to get my career back. “I would have preferred not guilty, because that is what I am.” The accusation against the actor stemmed from an alleged rape of the woman at the Premier Suites Plus serviced apartments on Bath Street in Glasgow in 2021. Prosecutors had contended that the woman was in a state of intoxication, asleep, or unconscious, and therefore unable to provide consent when Mr Odjig allegedly removed her lower clothing and performed the act.
