Comedian Janey Godley has been granted an honorary degree as she undergoes end-of-life treatment for cancer. The 63-year-old received the distinction from the University of Glasgow while situated in her hospice bed. Her daughter, comedian and actor Ashley Storrie, posted an image on social media showing Godley holding the certificate. Storrie stated that the recognition had brought her mother “so much joy in the final beats of her life”. Ashley Storrie wrote: “Janey is so honoured and I am so immensely proud of her. I am always proud of her.” She concluded with: “Congratulations Doctor Godley.” Storrie, known as the writer and star of the BBC comedy Dinosaur, recently recounted the poignant occasion when she informed her mother of her nomination for a Bafta Scotland award for the program. Ms Godley, who gained widespread recognition for her dubbed videos of Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid briefings during the pandemic, disclosed her diagnosis of ovarian cancer in November 2021. She had intended to commence her Why Is She Still Here? tour but was compelled to cancel it based on medical advice. During 2023, she was the recipient of the first-ever Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. A spokesperson for Glasgow University stated: “We are delighted to confirm Janey has been made an Honorary Graduate of the University.” The spokesperson added: “It is an honour to bestow an honorary doctorate on the incredible Dr Godley. We send all our love and support to Janey and her family.” Post navigation Janette Williams’ Journey: From Abba Tributes to Abba Voyage Current Highlights
