Organisers have announced that an agricultural show, which was cancelled this year due to a lack of volunteers, will proceed in 2025. The event, held in Tockwith near Harrogate, has been a fixture since the 1940s but “desperately needed new helpers” to continue. A spokesperson indicated that following the public’s awareness of its cancellation earlier this year, they received a “lot of offers” of assistance. The next Tockwith Show is scheduled for 3 August 2025, and organisers stated that cows will be the main theme, alongside camel racing. Georgina Watson, the committee chair, commented: “We desperately needed new helpers and when people realised that was why the show had to be cancelled this year, we got lots of offers of help which gives us the confidence to know we now have a strong team to put on the show.” Ms. Watson noted that the year-long break allowed the committee to review their operations and consider alternative strategies. She added: “As a result I am totally confident that next year’s show will have all the aspects that have worked so well in the past, but also some new and exciting ideas.” The upcoming show will feature over 800 competition classes, including categories for hay bales, horses, cakes, classic cars, poetry, and pigs. More than 120 trophies and £6,000 in prize money will be distributed, and Ms. Watson anticipates up to 8,000 attendees. She further stated: “Agriculture is such an important part of this region’s economy and heritage and the aim of our show is to ensure visitors not only have a great day out, but also learn about that rich heritage.” The inaugural Tockwith Show took place in 1947, with 12 volunteers raising £58, equivalent to nearly £3,000 in today’s money, to support the nearby RAF Marston Moor.
