Strong winds have led to the cancellation of several ferry services operating between Dover and Calais. DFDS announced the cancellation of seven services on Sunday and an additional four on Monday, though it anticipates all remaining sailings will proceed as planned. A company representative confirmed that passengers impacted by these cancellations would be provided with alternative travel options, including the possibility of using the Dover-Dunkirk route. The severe winds have also caused widespread disruption across other regions of the United Kingdom, impacting millions of individuals traveling in anticipation of the Christmas holiday period. Notably, around 100 flights were cancelled at Heathrow Airport. The DFDS spokesperson further advised passengers scheduled to travel this weekend to arrive at the port two hours prior to their scheduled departure time. Upon arrival, these passengers would be allocated the subsequent available sailing. Specific cancelled sailings from Calais to Dover included those scheduled for 08:25 GMT, 13:15, 18:00, and 22:45 on Sunday, along with 06:05 and 11:20 on Monday. For the Dover to Calais route, affected services were the 09:55, 14:40, and 19:30 departures on Sunday, and the 00:35 and 07:40 departures on Monday. At 11:00, the Port of Dover communicated via a post on X that traffic was moving without impediment. Concurrently, a P&O spokesperson confirmed that their Sunday crossings between Dover and Calais were operating according to schedule.
