Manchester United manager Marc Skinner has stated that the club intends to “keep assessing” midfielder Ella Toone in the wake of her calf injury. The England international is confirmed to be unavailable for United’s League Cup match against Everton on Wednesday and their Women’s Super League fixture away to Chelsea on Sunday. She will also miss the Lionesses’ forthcoming games against the United States and Switzerland. The manager indicated that Toone sustained the injury during a training session before their WSL victory over Leicester on Sunday. “She’ll miss the international window where we’ll keep assessing her time and then, we’ll see whether she’s back for the block of three games after that,” Skinner commented at a media conference held on Tuesday. However, Skinner also noted that Emma Watson and Jess Simpson, both of whom suffered anterior cruciate ligament injuries last season, could potentially make their debuts for United in the midweek game.
