Chesham secured a 1-0 victory against Yeovil Town at The Meadow earlier in the current month, thereby advancing to their first-round FA Cup match against Lincoln City. Michael Murray, co-manager of Chesham United, stated his belief that his team is capable of achieving a notable FA Cup upset when they face Lincoln City in the first round on Monday. The Generals, having been promoted to the National League South last season, previously defeated Yeovil Town 1-0 earlier this month, which led to this fixture against the Imps, a club positioned three divisions higher. Following Chesham’s 3-2 win against Enfield Town on Saturday, Murray conveyed to BBC Three Counties Radio, “It’s a really important week, obviously, for everyone top to bottom of the football club.” He further added, “It’s a massive game but we are going to try and keep it as normal as we can in preparation and get ready for what is going to be a tough, tough fixture.” Chesham is notably recognized for having Taskmaster presenter Alex Horne as both a supporter and a director, in addition to the popular Channel 4 program serving as the club’s shirt sponsor for the 2022-23 season. The team from Buckinghamshire has adapted effectively to competing in the sixth tier of English football, presently holding the 10th position in the league, merely one point clear of the play-off spots. Murray also stated, “We want tough games and we’re going to attack that tough game.” Chesham United previously eliminated then-League Two team Bristol Rovers during the first round of the 2015-16 season. Murray assumed the role of co-manager for the Generals with James Duncan in October 2018. Last season, he contributed to leading the club to the Premier Division South championship, following their elimination from the promotion play-offs by Bracknell Town at the semi-final stage the season before. Murray further commented, “I say it many times, and I say it about going into this league, we’re not going there just to make the numbers up or keep the score down- we’re going there to give a good account of ourselves.” He concluded, “We believe if we can give a good account of ourselves there’s no reason why we can’t get a result.” In 2015, Chesham created a significant FA Cup upset by securing a 1-0 victory at Bristol Rovers, a team that was then positioned 75 places higher in the football league structure. They now aim to surpass this achievement when they face League One Lincoln, who are currently 76 places above them. “We’re going to need all the supporters, we’re going to need a big turnout on that Monday night,” he stated. “Hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and, if we do that, then who knows?””
