Establishments serving alcoholic beverages in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland will face no restrictions on their Guinness orders leading up to the Christmas period. Diageo, the proprietor of Guinness, has imposed supply limitations on pubs within Great Britain, citing “exceptional demand” experienced over the preceding three weeks. The surge in the beverage’s sales across Great Britain is attributed to its growing appeal among women and younger demographics, with recent international rugby matches also contributing to the strain on available stock. However, the stout has historically been the preferred beverage for numerous patrons of pubs throughout both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Diageo informed BBC News NI that no threat of a Guinness scarcity exists in either Northern Ireland or the Republic. A spokesperson stated, “As we move into the busy Christmas period, we will make all deliveries to our customers across the island of Ireland, as planned and without disruption.” In 2022, the latest year for which data is accessible, Guinness represented approximately one-third of all pints sold in the Republic of Ireland. Great Britain stands as the brand’s largest market globally, with worldwide sales of the stout totaling approximately 1.8 billion pints annually. Copyright 2024 BBC. All rights reserved.
