Herm, a small island located near Guernsey, is preparing to host its inaugural strongman competition. This event, named “Herm’s Strongest,” will feature eight distinct weight categories for competitors. Cal Page, the event’s organiser, indicated his intention to use the island’s harbour front for the competition. He told BBC Radio Guernsey, “It’s hard to visualise, there’s not room there. But the way it’s going to be laid out is going to work for the first competition.” The competition is scheduled to consist of four events across its eight weight divisions. The initial event is planned as a tie dead lift, which Mr. Page characterized as a “deadlift with ties on the bar.” He added that the second event would involve participants performing a log press. According to Mr. Page, the third challenge will incorporate a piece of apparatus called Conan’s wheel, requiring contestants to carry a weight on a lengthy bar that pivots around a central point. The fourth and final event has been designated the Hercules Hold, an exercise Mr. Page explained would involve competitors being “spread eagled and [having] to hold the weight on either arm.” He commented, “Hopefully everyone is going to be OK as it’s going to be heavy work.” Explaining his motivation for introducing the competition to Herm, Mr. Page stated, “I competed in Guernsey’s Strongest Man in September and had such a good time that I wanted to bring it to this island. My friend Mark tried to bring it here but it never really took off. Hopefully I can carry on his strong work and we’ll get it over here.” Mr. Page reported that 28 individuals have already registered for the event, though he aims to reach a total of 50 participants.
