The yearly “Santa’s on a Bike” collective motorcycle procession is scheduled to reappear on the Isle of Man’s thoroughfares next month. This gathering will involve hundreds of motorcyclists, attired in Santa Claus outfits, commencing its journey from Douglas, the capital, on December 7. The previous year’s event generated more than £86,000 for Rebecca House, which is the children’s hospice located on the Isle of Man. Nicola Patterson, representing the organizing body Plan.com, stated that the island’s established motorcycling tradition renders it the “perfect place to bring everyone together to spread some festive cheer in aid of such a worthwhile cause”. Diverging from prior years, when the gathering began at either the Sea Terminal or the TT Grandstand, participants this year will embark from a location on Victoria Street in Douglas, situated directly before the company’s main office, at 10:00 GMT. Victoria Street itself will be inaccessible to vehicles, with parking restrictions enforced from Fort Street to the Jubilee Clock between 07:30 and 10:45. Nevertheless, vehicular movement will continue to be permitted from Fort Street onto Lord Street. The procession is slated to proceed southward towards Castletown, subsequently heading back to the island’s eastern side, concluding its journey at Rebecca House, which is adjacent to Noble’s Hospital in Braddan. John Knight, the chief executive of Hospice Isle of Man, commented that this occasion is consistently one where staff ensure the children residing at the facility participate, adding that “they always have a fantastic day”. Since 2018, the sponsored motorcycle rides have collectively generated more than £225,000 for Rebecca House. Why not follow BBC Isle of Man on Facebook, and X?
