Singer Myles Smith, a 26-year-old from Luton, has been declared the recipient of the Brit Rising Star Award for 2025. He surpassed soul singer Elmiene and east London indie duo Good Neighbours to claim the top honor. This award, established to recognize emerging talent, is chosen by a panel of industry experts in collaboration with BBC Radio 1, and its past winners include The Last Dinner Party, FLO, Sam Fender, and Griff. The “Stargazing” hitmaker commented, “I feel great, it’s been a big year full of great experiences and great moments – sharing it with great people.” Myles discovered he had won live on BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show while appearing with Jack Saunders. “You’re having me on,” he responded, before proceeding to call his mother, who conveyed her profound pride, telling him she was “so incredibly proud.” His mother, Deborah, remarked, “It’s incredible to watch,” adding, “None of this has impacted the character he is, he’s just such a wholesome genuine individual.” Myles replied to her, “You’ve got a habit of making me cry.” Myles has experienced a notable year, which includes his single “Stargazing” reaching the top five in the Official Charts, a performance at Glastonbury, accumulating over one billion streams, and being named BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year. To qualify for nomination for the Rising Star Award, artists must not have achieved a top 20 album or more than one top 20 single by October 31st. Four years ago, during the coronavirus lockdown, Myles began sharing cover songs online and achieved viral popularity in 2022 with his acoustic rendition of The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather.” After being recognized as BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year, Myles informed Newsbeat that he finally felt “comfortable in my own skin.” He stated, “What I think this year’s taught me is that expectations are there for comfort. But very rarely are they exactly what we imagine.” Since being named 2024’s Rising Star, The Last Dinner Party has successfully sold out a tour and released their debut album, “A Prelude to Ecstasy.” The Brit Awards will be broadcast live from the O2 in London on Saturday, March 1st.
