A hospice, whose personnel have been described as “reliable and caring,” has been granted an outstanding rating by inspecting bodies. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) team visited St Luke’s hospice in Whirlow, Sheffield, in April. Their assessment concluded that the hospice’s leadership, effectiveness, and responsiveness were deserving of its highest possible rating. Safety standards at the hospice were rated as good, leading the CQC to assign an overall outstanding rating to the facility. St Luke’s has served Sheffield for 50 years, offering assistance to terminally ill patients and their families, both at the hospice premises and within their own homes. The CQC report disclosed that St Luke’s records indicated patients generally received necessary treatments without delay, and they felt staff were accessible for help or support. Patients and their families informed inspectors that staff members treated them with “warmth and kindness” and delivered effective care and treatment. They further noted receiving care from the same individuals, whom they described as “reliable, knowledgeable and caring.” Jo Lenton, St Luke’s chief executive and chief nurse, conveyed their pleasure at having been awarded the rating. She commented, “Our primary aim has always been to put our patients and their families at the heart of everything we do and it is particularly rewarding that inspectors recognised this and praised the dedication and hard work of all the St Luke’s teams.” Ms. Lenton stated that they intend to continue building on their accomplishments, as they have for more than 50 years, to keep “providing outstanding care” for the residents of Sheffield.
