An individual is undertaking a daily walk of 14,400 steps – equivalent to 11km to 12km (6.8-7.5 miles) – each day from December 1st through December 25th, while donning a unique Christmas jumper for each day. Dan Hiorns, a 36-year-old resident of Kidderminster, Worcestershire, stated his objective is to highlight the issue of the 1,440 men who, he asserts, die by suicide globally each day. Mr. Hiorns mentioned that he has accumulated Christmas jumpers over several years and sought to utilize them for a charitable cause. The proceeds generated from this initiative are designated for Movember, an organization dedicated to increasing awareness and securing funds for men’s health concerns, specifically including suicide prevention. The individual, a former volunteer at the Brierley Hill branch of the Samaritan charity, explained that the effort aims to “get people talking,” further stating, “Us men aren’t always the best at talking about how they feel.” He elaborated, “I thought a good way to spread the message is to wear a Christmas jumper and often it gets random people talking to you.” Mr. Hiorns is carrying out his challenge by walking approximately two hours daily within the Kidderminster vicinity, a routine that incorporates accompanying his daughter to school. He is also ensuring a distinct Christmas jumper is worn each day. He noted that he possesses a collection of 29 Christmas jumpers, providing him with several spares. Among his preferred designs, he mentioned those featuring an elf and the Grinch. To date, he has accumulated £598 towards his fundraising goal of £1,000. He expressed hope, stating, “Hopefully, we can get there by Christmas Day.”
