A pregnant cow has been reported as “fit and well” following its extraction from a residential swimming pool by fire service personnel. The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service responded to an incident at Ketco Avenue in Ketton, Rutland, on Monday at 12:41 GMT. The call concerned a cow that was deeply embedded in 2ft to 3ft (0.6m to 1m) of water within the pool. The rescue operation involved partially draining the pool before the animal was safely removed using a downer cow harness, a device specifically designed to safeguard the heifer and her udders, as stated by the service. A spokeswoman commented that the pregnant heifer “had checked herself in for a spa day. The only problem is, she couldn’t check herself out”. The technical rescue team from Southern Station remained on site for over three hours, departing at 15:57, according to the fire service. Subsequently, a veterinarian examined the cow following the incident. The spokeswoman further stated, “The farmer has arranged for her to be kept an eye on.”
