Heavyweight boxers Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury are employing distinct preparation strategies for their upcoming rematch in Saudi Arabia this Saturday, particularly concerning communication with their families. Both athletes come from large families. British boxer Fury disclosed that he has maintained no contact with his wife, Paris, for three months during his training camp in Malta. Conversely, the 37-year-old Ukrainian Usyk stated that he communicates with his wife and children daily, despite not having seen them for five months. “It’s helped me – because it’s my family,” Usyk commented on Tuesday. He added, “My little daughter, Maria, started to walk, say ‘mama’, ‘baba’ [grandmother]. This is real motivation for me.” The event is scheduled for Saturday, 21 December, with the programme commencing at 21:00 GMT. Usyk, who holds the WBA (Super), WBO, and WBC heavyweight titles, will face Fury in their rematch in Riyadh. This bout takes place six months after their initial memorable contest, which Usyk secured via a split decision. Fury, aged 36, is considered a slight underdog for this fight, having been the favourite in their previous match. He has adopted a strategy of no family contact to minimize potential distractions. Fury stated, “It’s been a long camp – been away from my wife and kids for three months.” He further elaborated, “I’ve not spoken to Paris at all for three months – not one word. I’ve sacrificed a lot. But it’ll all be worth it, 100%.” Paris Fury is anticipated to be present ringside on Saturday. During the first fight, she was six months pregnant and tragically lost their baby on the eve of the event, preventing her from accompanying her husband in Riyadh. On Instagram, she commented: “People don’t see the sacrifices made.” She added, “I’ve let him solely concentrate on this fight. It seems like he’s been gone forever, especially with no contact. But if it’s what he needs…”
