Fran Alonso, Celtic’s former manager, expressed his hope for a “miracle” as the team prepares to face formidable opponent Chelsea in tonight’s Champions League fixture. Alonso departed the Glasgow club last year to take a position with Houston Dash in America, with Elena Sadiku subsequently appointed as the current boss. Sadiku is set to guide the team in their inaugural Champions League match held at Parkhead. Chelsea, having secured the English title five years consecutively, leads Group B with two victories from two matches, whereas Celtic occupies the bottom position following losses to Twente and Real Madrid. Speaking to BBC Scotland, Alonso shared his perspective: “They will be feeling very excited,” he stated. “It does not come any better than playing at Celtic Park in front of the most passionate fans in the women’s game and against probably the toughest opponent you can face right now in Europe.” He continued, “The opponent is fantastic and the competition is fantastic so I’m hoping we have a huge crowd and see an environment that everyone can enjoy.” Alonso acknowledged the challenge, adding, “It’s going to be tough to take points from Chelsea. They are undefeated in the Women’s Super League and undefeated in the Champions League. “But I’m hopeful that with the fans and some set-plays then maybe the miracle can happen.” Post navigation Fan Suggests Full-Back Injuries are Key to Arsenal’s Inconsistent Form African Player of the Year: Contenders Adingra and Lookman Highlighted
