Funding aimed at fostering the creation of “spaces to thrive” within communities has been made accessible to charities and non-profit organisations. The Manx Lottery Trust is inviting groups to submit applications for grants ranging from £2,501 to £25,000 through its relaunched Thematic Fund. The focus of these awards is to support projects that “bring people together and improve key community spaces”. Applications are open for both new and existing projects, provided they can be completed within a 12-month period. The previous iteration of the scheme had permitted grants of up to £50,000, with a total fund of £150,000 distributed in phases over three years. However, revisions to the grants have established a maximum cap of £25,000 for the latest application round, which will see £50,000 allocated for projects over one year. The Trust indicated that this change is expected to increase the number of projects the thematic fund can support, in order to “reach a wider network of organisations dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of our communities”. To be eligible for a grant, projects are required to meet three primary objectives. The Trust offered examples of potentially eligible projects, including community hub renovation, inclusive activities and mentorship for young people, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, and improvements to insulation and energy efficiency for community buildings where events are held. Trust chairman Stephen Turner stated that the theme reflects a “commitment to helping communities create spaces where people feel connected, supported, and empowered”. He added, “This funding offers groups the chance to make transformative improvements, whether by revitalising community spaces or fostering inclusive activities that make a real difference.” The deadline for applications is 28 February 2025.
