Members of Everton’s Women’s Super League football team delivered festive joy to ill children in Liverpool through a dedicated visit. The athletes, wearing blue Santa hats, spent a day at Claire House Children’s Hospice located in West Derby, distributing presents to both the children and their relatives. Clare Wheeler and Elise Stenevik engaged in conversations with families, discussing the significant support the hospice provides to seriously and terminally ill children throughout Merseyside, Cheshire, and North Wales. Claire Jones, representing Claire House, expressed gratitude to the team for creating a “profound impact” on the families. Additionally, the players participated in photo opportunities and various activities, such as Christmas-themed craft making and decorating gingerbread biscuits. Midfielder Wheeler conveyed her immense pride regarding the visit. She stated: “I think Everton is definitely large on the community and giving back to those that support us so heavily. Christmas is the time of giving and just small gestures like this means a lot”. Defender Stenevik commented: “It is nice to meet new people that you wouldn’t usually interact with, it was fun.” She added: “We found it most fun to give out the Everton Santa Claus hats. Many of them were Evertonians so that was really nice to see. The ones that support Liverpool, we tried to make them support Everton instead!” Ms Jones further remarked: “It really was a highlight for our families.” She continued: “All the babies, children and young adults attending had a gorgeous time colouring tree decorations and decorating gingerbread. Christmas time can be incredibly tough for many of our families, but moments like this visit create memories that lift everyone’s spirits.”
