Lisa Keightley, who previously served as England’s coach and played for Australia, has been named the new head coach for the Northern Superchargers women’s team in The Hundred competition. The 53-year-old Australian managed the England team from January 2020 until her departure at the conclusion of the 2022 summer season. Keightley takes over from former England international Danielle Hazel, who is stepping down after holding the position for four years. “The opportunity to be head coach of Northern Superchargers is a huge honour, and I’m excited to build on the solid foundations laid over the past four years,” Keightley said. “Our goal is to win the competition and with the core squad we’re working to retain before deadline day, alongside the players we’ll recruit through The Hundred draft, I’m confident we have the potential to achieve that.” This year, the Superchargers narrowly missed qualifying for the eliminator round, following their achievement as runners-up in 2023. Under Keightley’s leadership, England advanced to the semi-finals of the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup and competed in the final of the 2022 Women’s World Cup. However, the team experienced a significant defeat in the 2022 Women’s Ashes and did not secure a medal at the Commonwealth Games. Following her departure from the England role, she served as the head coach for Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash and as an assistant coach for Delhi Capitals in India’s Women’s Premier League. As a player, Keightley participated in nine Tests and 82 one-day internationals for Australia, notably becoming the first woman to achieve a century at Lord’s.
