A woman from Lincolnshire has received a 72-week prison sentence for repeatedly threatening her husband’s life. Melissa Abolina, aged 27, residing on St Andrews Street in Lincoln, pleaded guilty to charges of controlling and coercive behaviour directed at her partner, as well as a separate charge of malicious communication targeting a former neighbour. Proceedings at Lincoln Crown Court revealed that this behaviour commenced after the couple cohabited in 2023. Prosecutor David Allan informed the court that during their honeymoon in Cyprus, Abolina bit her husband on the cheek, leading him to secure himself in the bathroom. Mr Allan stated, “This is a case where there was fear of violence on many occasions.” According to Mr Allan, Abolina communicated to her husband: “I will kill you in your sleep if you don’t do what I want.” Furthermore, she pushed him into the path of traffic near Lincoln railway station. The court was presented with an audio recording of threats Abolina made during a discussion with her husband. On the recording, she was heard stating: “I will kill you one day, that is what I am planning to do.” She also said: “I don’t want you alive, I don’t like you.” Mr Allan further detailed that Abolina posted her husband’s name on Facebook accompanied by the acronym RIP. Additionally, she disseminated more false accusations about her husband on Facebook and reached out to his employer. An impact statement from the victim detailed his forced relocation, noting: “I did not know what she was capable of and was living in fear.” The court was also informed that Abolina delivered a letter through the door of a former neighbour in Lincoln. Mr Allan informed the court that the letter contained the words: “I will kill your dog and kick your doors in.” It continued: “You will burn in your flat and all your family are going to hell.” Mr Allan added that this victim subsequently feared opening her front door. When delivering the sentence, Judge Philip Head acknowledged that Abolina’s culpability was significantly lessened due to her mental health challenges. Nevertheless, he stated that a considerable portion of her actions aimed to intensify her husband’s fear. Judge Head remarked, “It was clearly persistent and prolonged.” Beyond her prison term, Abolina has received a five-year prohibition from contacting both her husband and her former neighbour.
