Funeral services provided by the crematorium in Jersey are set to move to a temporary location while construction of the new hospital at Overdale proceeds. The government announced that services would be transferred to the members room of the Royal Jersey Agricultural & Horticultural Society (RJA&HS) in Trinity, effective Spring 2025. This relocation is intended to prevent any disturbance to ceremonies. The Jersey Crematorium is situated next to Overdale, an area where construction is projected to increase in intensity during 2025. Deputy Tom Binet, the Minister for Health and Social Services, affirmed that crematorium services could “continue to be delivered with privacy and dignity” throughout the construction period. He stated: “I would also like to emphasise that, while the service aspect of the funeral proceedings will be temporarily relocated, interments, cremations and the use of the Garden of Remembrance will remain at the existing Overdale location.” He further noted that, in contrast to the demolition phase, where work at the Overdale site could be paused during funeral services to minimise disruption, “construction activities are much more difficult to stop due to the scale and complexity of the work involved.” The government confirmed that services would return to the crematorium once the work concludes, and cremations, interments, and the use of the Garden of Remembrance would continue at the existing Overdale location.
