A new council has been established with the goal of enhancing the involvement of children and families within Jersey’s court system. According to The Bailiff’s Chambers, The Jersey Family Justice Council (JFJC) will serve as a direct channel for members of the public to communicate any concerns encountered in family court proceedings. The chamber indicated that over its initial three-year period, the JFJC plans to address and improve various aspects, such as the deployment of experts in legal processes, strategies to prevent delays, and the handling of domestic abuse cases. Deputy Bailiff Robert MacRae stated that the JFJC, by means of consultation and research, has the potential to “improve and modernise safeguarding and the administration of family justice”. He further elaborated: “The primary purpose of the JFJC is to improve co-operation between and increase awareness across various courts and agencies involved with children and families, so that we can all better understand what obstacles stand in the way of good outcomes for our children.” Additional matters that this independent entity is anticipated to concentrate on include: The Bailiff’s Chambers also mentioned that a specific website would be made available following the establishment of the JFJC.
