Israeli authorities have reported that a 12-year-old Israeli boy was killed in a shooting incident involving a Palestinian attacker targeting a bus in the southern part of the occupied West Bank. According to the Israeli military, the assailant discharged a firearm at the bus within the al-Khader Junction area while it was en route from the Beitar Illit settlement to Jerusalem. The individual who died was identified as Yehoshua Aharon Tuvia Simha. Medical personnel indicated that one woman and two men also sustained injuries. The military further stated that the attacker initially escaped from the location but subsequently surrendered to Israeli security forces after searches were conducted in the adjacent Bethlehem area. Israeli news outlets identified the individual as Ezzedine Malluh, who is from Beit Awwa. Israeli President Isaac Herzog characterized the incident as “a very painful and sad moment for the people of Israel.” Separately, a Hamas official referred to the attack as “heroic,” though without claiming the group’s involvement. Concurrently, the Palestinian health ministry reported that Israeli forces shot and killed a Palestinian man in the northern West Bank town of Qalqilya on Wednesday morning. The Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing local sources, stated that Israeli troops fired upon a vehicle occupied by Mohammed Brahma, 25, and subsequently removed his body. The West Bank has experienced an escalation in violence since the commencement of the conflict in Gaza, which was initiated by Hamas’s lethal assault on southern Israel on 7 October 2023. Hundreds of Palestinians have died as Israeli forces have increased their operations, stating their objective is to curb Palestinian attacks that have resulted in Israeli fatalities in both the West Bank and Israel.
