Two teenagers have been found guilty in connection with the death of a 17-year-old boy in a Wolverhampton park. Harleigh Hepworth, from Staffordshire, sustained fatal stab wounds and was discovered in West Park on March 7. A 17-year-old male, whose identity is legally protected, received convictions for murder, robbery, and possession of a bladed article. Jovarn Esterine, aged 17 at the time of the incident and now 18, was acquitted of murder but convicted of manslaughter, robbery, and possession of a bladed article. Sentencing for both individuals is scheduled for a subsequent date at Wolverhampton Crown Court. Following the delivery of the verdicts, police revealed that Harleigh, a resident of Rugeley, had been visiting the city with a friend. They had arranged to meet Esterine and the unnamed boy at the park. According to officers, upon their arrival, the defendants confronted Harleigh and his friend, after which the 17-year-old fatally stabbed Harleigh in the chest. Harleigh attempted to flee but was later located in the park, bleeding. Police further stated that during the stabbing, Esterine placed his arm around Harleigh’s friend to prevent him from intervening. Esterine then held a knife to the friend’s chest, threatening to kill him unless he provided the passcode to his phone, which was subsequently stolen. After the conclusion of the trial, Harleigh’s family issued a tribute, stating he “had his short life ended in an instant through a moment of mindless aggression”. In a statement released via the police, they expressed: “Our family, his girlfriend and close friends will no longer be able to enjoy seeing him grow, mature and enjoy life. He had positive plans for his future. Harleigh had a great sense of humour; he was funny, and he was polite. We will miss him massively, but we will always remember his cheekiness, his infectious smile, and the fun times we had together.” Post navigation Police Investigate Public Indecency Incidents in York Police Release CCTV Following Suspected Racially-Aggravated Assault
