A prohibition against car cruising in a specific town has been extended for a period of three years. This Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) encompasses a significant area of West Thurrock, notably the Lakeside shopping centre, and its enforcement will be carried out by Essex Police. Acting Inspector Adam Bowden commented, “This persistent behaviour has a detrimental impact on local people.” According to Thurrock Council, the preceding order was scheduled to conclude by the end of December. Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) represent authorities that local councils and their collaborators can utilize to tackle anti-social conduct within specified zones. This grants police the authority to stop motorists from gathering in significant groups, engaging in racing, executing stunts, or operating vehicles in a manner deemed anti-social. Furthermore, it prohibits the use of car parks for these activities. Inspector Bowden stated, “We want people to enjoy their vehicles, but when they speed, race, drive in convoys, perform stunts and make excessive noise we will take action.” He added that “This order complements the work we do and will continue to do to reduce anti-social behaviour and enhance public safety.”
