The stations’ improvement programme, a collaborative effort by Southeastern and Network Rail Alliance, has concluded, with upgrades amounting to £2.6m. This initiative, which commenced in 2023, involved enhancements at more than 20 stations across Kent, East Sussex, and Greater London, and was characterized as a “significant milestone” by the train operator. According to Southeastern, the completed work resulted in enhanced facilities, greater accessibility, modernized waiting areas, and revitalized station environments. Specific projects within this scope included the restoration of the historic Victorian booking halls at Battle and Margate stations. Further improvements included the refurbishment of the ticket office at Maze Hill station. Additionally, a women’s toilet was installed on one of the busiest platforms at Orpington stations. Efforts were also directed towards supporting Access for All schemes at various stations. This involved upgrading accessible toilets at Bexley and Herne Bay, introducing step-free waiting rooms, and installing universal toilets at Petts Wood. The access ramp providing entry to platform one at Canterbury East underwent refurbishment. Moreover, a new accessible toilet was also established at Hither Green station. The allocated funding package additionally encompassed the design phase for subsequent enhancements. These future improvements are planned by the Alliance for several stations, specifically Beckenham Junction and New Cross in London, and Canterbury West and Faversham in Kent. David Wornham, Southeastern’s passenger services director, commented on the project, stating: “These upgrades will make a real difference to passengers, whether it’s easier accessibility, modernised facilities, or simply a more pleasant station environment. “We know how important these enhancements are to the communities we serve, and we’re proud to work in alliance with Network Rail to deliver a better experience for everyone who travels with us.” Post navigation M26 Eastbound Reopens After Lorry Fire Caused Five-Hour Closure Cornwall Bus Fares Set to Increase Following National Cap Adjustment
