A projection light display, “Colour and Light,” is set to return to York next year, following the allocation of funding. The city’s Business Improvement District (BID), which sponsors the event, confirmed that £40,000 in council funding has been secured for the display, scheduled for March. This complimentary event features a video projected onto 3D surfaces, presented on a continuous loop. It has previously been hosted at prominent locations such as York Minster and the city’s Art Gallery. According to York BID, the event held at the gallery this year drew more than 200,000 visitors to the city centre. A spokesperson for the organization commented: “Colour and Light has become a much-loved part of the York events calendar and we’ll be able to tell everyone more about the 2025 edition soon.” The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that BID received an award of £53,333 from the council, sourced from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The organization also indicated that, beyond the funds allocated for Colour and Light, an additional £8,333 is designated to support a York Retail Week. This initiative aims to promote local independent shops during the city’s Residents Festival in February. A council report concerning the funding specified that these events are intended to strengthen the connection between the residents of York and the city centre. A spokesperson for BID further stated that the events are being organized with the objective of drawing more visitors to the city centre and providing support for local businesses. The spokesperson added: “We’re looking forward to a busy 2025 and putting on many events and experiences.“In the coming months we will release more details about these exciting projects.”
