Derby County defender Eiran Cashin, who progressed through the club’s academy, has been sidelined until the new year due to a hamstring injury. Rams boss Paul Warne, however, is concerned that the centre-back’s recovery could take even longer. The 23-year-old player exited the field after scoring during last week’s 4-0 victory over Portsmouth. He had previously experienced issues with a comparable injury earlier in the week, leading Warne to voice worries about Cashin’s physical condition following their goalless draw with Burnley. The manager of the Rams was unable to provide a precise timeline for Cashin’s return, as the full extent of the injury remains unknown. Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, he stated: “He will be constantly monitored, we don’t know how long.” He further confirmed: “We won’t see him until the new year, that is definitely the case.” Cashin’s injury occurs just before a demanding festive schedule, during which Derby is set to play four games within a 12-day span, concluding on 1 January. These upcoming matches commence with a trip to Luton Town on Friday, followed by home fixtures against West Brom and Leeds United, before an away game at Sheffield Wednesday. Cashin has played a crucial role for Derby over the past few seasons, initially securing his position in the defense under former manager Wayne Rooney during the latter half of the 2021-22 season, a period when the club was relegated from the Championship while under administration. Subsequently, he earned the club’s young player of the season award during their inaugural season in League One, and featured as a starter in 43 of their 46 games when they secured promotion back to the second tier last season. This season, the defender has appeared in 20 matches for the Rams, and his recent goal against Pompey marked his first in 10 months. Warne further commented: “It’s a blow and it’s a blow for the kid as well because he was in a really good vein of form.” He continued: “He’s been a big part of the success we’ve had. It’s disappointing but hopefully the lads perform admirably without him on Friday.” Warne also stated: “No-one wants to lose their players, their consistent performers, but then I can’t cry about it because in fairness to him and Curtis Nelson they have virtually played every minute for a season and half.” In related news, Warne indicated that Derby anticipates defender Ryan Nyambe’s return to be earlier than initially projected. The Namibia international had been sidelined for as long as six months due to a knee injury sustained in October, but there is now a possibility of his return in late January.
