Arsenal is encountering a scheduling conflict concerning their men’s Carabao Cup quarter-final match against Crystal Palace and their women’s Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich. The women’s squad is set to host Bayern at home on Wednesday, 18 December. Mikel Arteta’s team has been drawn to play Crystal Palace at home in the Carabao Cup quarter-final, with this game also slated for the same midweek period. Crystal Palace is scheduled to face Brighton on Sunday, 15 December, in a match previously set for television broadcast. This creates a difficulty because relocating the cup fixture to Tuesday would provide Crystal Palace with only 48 hours for recovery. Furthermore, the cup game cannot be rescheduled for Thursday, given that Palace and Arsenal are already set to compete against each other in the Premier League on Saturday, 21 December, at Selhurst Park. Tottenham, Arsenal’s neighboring club, has also secured a home draw in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals, introducing an additional challenge for those responsible for scheduling. Spurs and Arsenal typically avoid playing home matches concurrently, necessitating agreements to determine which club receives priority for home fixtures when such scheduling conflicts occur in cup tournaments. During the summer, Arsenal had announced that their women’s team would host three Champions League matches at Emirates Stadium upon qualifying for the group stage, with any subsequent knockout stage games also being held there should the team advance further in the competition. The BBC has reached out to the English Football League, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace, and discussions regarding the scheduling conflict are currently underway.
