A waste disposal facility in Leicestershire has ceased operations due to “safety concerns” following damage inflicted by a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). The incident occurred at Kibworth tip on Tuesday afternoon when the HGV, while in the process of replacing a waste container, damaged a steel canopy situated above the bays. This damage prompted the site’s closure on Wednesday. A structural evaluation is now required for the recycling and household waste facility, located off the A6. Leicestershire County Council indicated that the site would resume service once it is determined to be “safe to do so”. A representative for the authority issued an apology for the inconvenience resulting from the closure, stating that “the safety of staff and site users is our top priority”. In light of the closure, the council has announced that the Market Harborough tip will operate daily up to and including Saturday, November 16. The Riverside site, which typically opens from Thursday to Saturday, will therefore remain open every day throughout the coming week.
