Law enforcement officials have indicated a connection between a recent knifepoint robbery in a Derbyshire town and a series of comparable incidents that occurred in the county earlier in the year. According to police, a “significant” sum of money was stolen from a Co-op branch situated on Blenheim Road in Ashbourne. The theft, which took place around 22:30 GMT on 8 December, was carried out by an individual whose face was obscured by a tightly drawn hooded top. This incident follows seven prior robberies that occurred in Derby and Ilkeston during the period from 5 October to 7 November. The charity Crimestoppers has now raised the reward offered for details that result in a conviction, increasing it from £1,000 to £3,000. Derbyshire Police confirmed that no injuries were sustained during the latest robbery, but the police force stated its belief that these incidents are connected. The force has disseminated video footage from some of the earlier robberies, including a clip depicting a shopkeeper fending off an assailant using a mop. Lydia Patsalides, who serves as the East Midlands regional manager for Crimestoppers, commented: “It is clear that the person responsible for these crimes has no thought whatsoever for his victims – subjecting them to what can only be described as a terrifying series of incidents.” She added: “I am sure that there are people out there who have information about this crime and the person responsible and I would urge anyone who has any information to come forward to speak to our charity 100% anonymously.”
