British ice dancers Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson, who hold six national titles, secured their spot in the ISU Grand Prix Final by earning their second Grand Prix gold medal of the current season. The duo nearly withdrew from the competition after Fear sustained a leg injury during training on Friday. Despite this, they finished second following the rhythm dance segment at the Finlandia Trophy in Helsinki, ultimately surpassing Canadian favorites Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier during Sunday’s free dance. This victory marked Fear and Gibson’s third career Grand Prix gold. They currently lead the world rankings, positioning them favorably for a strong performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy. As two-time European silver medallists, they aim to be the first British figure skaters to secure an Olympic medal since Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean achieved the feat in 1994. Fear, aged 25, and Gibson, aged 30, are scheduled to participate in the British Championships in Sheffield on November 30, prior to their appearance at the Grand Prix Final in Grenoble, France, on December 4. The pair intends to better their fourth-place results from the previous two iterations of the event, which brings together the top six skaters or pairs in each discipline following the six-stage Grand Prix Series. Fear stated, “Our goal is to get as much out of the training as we can, and learn from the scores here, and all the feedback, and then just continue to build with each competition.”
