Government funding exceeding one million pounds has been secured for two brownfield housing developments in Wolverhampton. Initial work on the sites of the former Loxdale Primary School in Bilston and the Stowheath Day Training Centre in East Park is scheduled to commence early next year. According to the City of Wolverhampton Council, over seven acres (2.8 hectares) of brownfield land will be utilized to construct 150 new residences. This £1.4 million in funding is anticipated to generate hundreds of construction employment positions and apprenticeship prospects within the city. Steve Evans, who serves as the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, stated: “This vital funding will enable us to kickstart this exciting scheme that makes the best use of council assets and fits with our brownfield first policy.” Residents in the area were given the chance to provide feedback on the preliminary designs during a consultation held last year. Mr. Evans further noted that the development is intended to supply improved and new affordable housing options for essential workers in the vicinity.
