Households facing difficulties with essential payments and maintaining warmth this winter are receiving assistance. Somerset Council’s “Help Through Winter” initiative will supply residents with vouchers applicable to utility expenses, provide grants for household furnishings, and allocate funds to support food banks. Furthermore, the council announced that all libraries across the county are serving as “warm spaces,” accessible to individuals throughout the day. Councillor Sarah Wakefield commented, “We know many residents are feeling the pressure of the cost-of-living crisis and that the winter weather can put extra costs on struggling households.” The financial aid from the council, sourced from the government’s Household Support Fund, will be distributed to charitable bodies and community groups. These entities will subsequently disburse the funds to vulnerable members of the community. An extra £500 million has been allocated to this national fund, enabling local authorities across the country to assist those most in distress during the colder period. Ms Wakefield further stated, “Our priority is to ensure we use the funding from central government to help as many people as possible. “That’s why we’re distributing so much of it directly to local organisations and charities. “They will ensure the funds reach our communities in the most efficient way.” She urged residents to “explore all options, and take up the support that’s there.” Post navigation Edinburgh Charities Secure Funding Amidst Deficit Challenges Barnard Castle Parking Restrictions Spark Resident Concerns
