A man has been incarcerated following his deliberate act of throwing a brick through a car window, which inflicted “catastrophic” brain injuries upon the driver. Robert Dickson assaulted victim Aaron Kerr on 21 June, 2022, in Bentinck Street, Birkenhead, as Mr. Kerr was reversing his vehicle in an attempt to escape. Liverpool Crown Court heard that Dickson had “lost his temper” after an earlier confrontation between the two men that evening, though Mr. Kerr had not cooperated with police regarding that incident. Dickson, a resident of Gladstone Close in Birkenhead with a history of 27 previous convictions, admitted guilt to unlawful wounding and received a two-year prison sentence. The court was informed that Mr. Kerr sustained fractures to the front of his skull and face, in addition to bruising and bleeding on the brain. He required placement in an induced coma and underwent urgent and complex surgery at the specialist Walton Centre hospital in Fazakerley, Liverpool. Judge Andrew Menary KC, the Recorder of Liverpool, characterized the injuries as “catastrophic” and “life-threatening”. Additional reporting was provided by Lynda Roughley.
