Manchester City has installed 2,878 solar panels on the roof of Joie Stadium. This installation, located at the home ground of City’s women’s team, marks the initial phase of a broader initiative that will see over 10,000 solar panels integrated across the City Football Academy. The club has stated that once the entire project is finished, “the panels will generate enough renewable energy to offset the annual power requirements needed to run the City Football Academy, making it one of the largest producers of renewable energy in world football”. Manchester City aims to achieve net carbon zero status by 2030. Pete Bradshaw, the club’s director of sustainability, commented, “By transitioning to self-supplied renewable energy, we will guarantee a consistent flow of clean power that offsets the energy required to run the stadium and significantly reduce its environmental impact.” He further added, “In doing so, this installation undoubtedly makes the Joie Stadium one of the most sustainable stadiums in world football.”
