Dozens of individuals remain missing following the severe floods in Spain, which have led to the cancellation of the Valencia MotoGP. The season’s final race was scheduled to take place at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit, beginning on 15 November. At least 202 people have died in the Valencia region due to the torrential rains. MotoGP announced, “In lieu of racing in Valencia, MotoGP will instead race for Valencia,” and has yet to disclose a new venue or date for the event. The championship further stated, “The championship will put our collective efforts behind backing the relief funds already in place to ensure our positive impact can connect with the area in the way it best serves the people and communities we have been part of for so long.” Several other events have also been called off because of the floods, including a planned visit by La Liga champions Real Madrid to Valencia. Jose Castillejo, a former youth team player for Valencia, died as a result of the floods. The 28-year-old had played for the club up to the under-19 level and subsequently featured for several other teams, including Paterna, Eldense, and Vilamarxant. Segunda division side Eldense, where Castillejo played during the 2015-16 season, issued a statement: “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace.”
