Train operator Great Western Railway (GWR) has announced the introduction of new routes and an increase in carriages on key services. As part of its December timetable revision, GWR is set to launch additional direct services between Bristol and Oxford. These two Saturday round-trips will depart from Bristol Temple Meads at 10:18 GMT and 15:18 GMT, with return journeys from Oxford scheduled for 12:02 and 17:12. GWR has also implemented adjustments to its services in South Wales, re-timing some arrivals into Cardiff by up to 11 minutes. Furthermore, the operator will enhance the number of carriages on certain early Sunday morning trains operating on crucial routes. Specifically, five-carriage trains on some services from Cheltenham to London Paddington and from Great Malvern to London Paddington will be replaced by trains featuring nine or ten carriages. Journey times on services connecting Bristol and Weymouth have been reduced by 17 minutes. Additionally, a new direct service between Cheltenham and Bristol is slated for introduction on Saturdays at 08:46 GMT. This train will establish a direct connection from Cheltenham to Chippenham and Bath, while also contributing to the alleviation of demand on the subsequent 08:59 service from Cheltenham to London. The new timetable will take effect on Sunday 15 December for Sunday services, and from Monday 16 December for weekday services. For further updates, follow BBC Somerset on Facebook and X.
