Charlotte Edwards has been appointed as the new head coach for Hampshire women’s cricket, with former Southern Vipers teammate Georgia Adams named captain. Both individuals, previously part of the Southern Vipers, will continue their association with the Utilita Bowl. This move is part of a restructured women’s domestic cricket framework, which will see eight counties host professional teams starting in 2025. Adams’s tenure with the Vipers included captaining the team, and she holds records as their leading run-scorer, leading wicket-taker, and most capped player. “It’s an honour to be named captain of Hampshire as we all embark on a new era for women’s cricket within the county,” Adams stated. “We have a fantastic squad of players with a really good mixture of youth and experience so I’m looking forward to getting stuck in next summer with the Rose and Crown.” Edwards and Adams were teammates during the 2016 Women’s Cricket Super League season, which culminated in a trophy win. Their shared success extends to all six Southern Vipers trophies and The Hundred trophy in 2023 with Southern Brave. The Vipers secured their inaugural T20 trophy, named after Edwards, in 2022. The following year, both Edwards and Adams played a crucial role in the team becoming the first regional side to simultaneously hold both domestic trophies. “I’m delighted to remain at Utilita Bowl,” Edwards commented. “It’s been such a special place for me since I came here in 2016. I’m looking forward to progressing the development of an exciting group of players as we look to continue the successful legacy of women’s cricket at Utilita Bowl and within Hampshire.” Post navigation Jim Goodwin Addresses Injury Concerns, Points Deficit, and Upcoming Hibs Fixture Jason Perry Links Cardiff’s Limited Managerial Choices to Board-Level “Chaos”
