Nottinghamshire has announced the re-signing of South African wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne for the majority of the 2025 County Championship season. Last season, Verreynne had a highly effective three-game stint with Notts, where he scored an unbeaten 50 against Surrey and concluded with an average of 248. The 27-year-old participated in three red-ball matches last summer, contributing to Notts’ successful retention of their Division One status. Across four innings, he accumulated 248 runs, being dismissed only once. His performance included a half-century against the champions Surrey and a highest score of 148 against Warwickshire. Verreynne is scheduled to be available for 12 out of Notts’ 14 championship fixtures next summer. Notts head coach Peter Moores commented, “Kyle provided an important injection when we needed it last season, bringing all his experience and qualities as an international player. We know conditions will be different in April, to the time he spent with us at the end of the season, though his record in Test Match cricket shows he has the ability to adapt and still be successful.” Currently, Verreynne is representing South Africa in their Test series against Sri Lanka, where he achieved his third century for his nation in the second Test. Reflecting on his return to the county, Verreynne stated that he “felt really comfortable playing cricket at Trent Bridge last season” and further described the venue as an “awesome place to play.” He also remarked, “I thought the competition was of a really good standard – when you’ve played international cricket, you still want to be tested at domestic level, so I really enjoyed adapting to English conditions.” Verreynne added, “I know the challenge could be different next year in the early part of the summer, but I’m sure that will be beneficial to me.” Notts is scheduled to commence the new season at home against Durham on 4 April.
