Law enforcement officials have stated that a fire that extensively damaged a disused primary school earlier this year is being investigated as arson. Emergency services responded to and extinguished the fire at the site of the former Greenland Infant School, located in Stanley, County Durham, during May. Durham Constabulary indicated that their officers concluded the fire was intentionally started. Nevertheless, the force also noted that the inquiry has been concluded “pending any new information” because of insufficient evidence connecting any individuals to the incident. No injuries were reported as a result of the event at the school, which has remained vacant since 2013. Authorities confirmed that an “extensive investigation” was conducted, involving the examination of CCTV recordings and interviews with several witnesses.
